Hold on to that feeling

Brother Neji just said,

"thank you for summing that up."

Do you realize how important this is? This is what Hiccup lived with. What he heard from his father, authority figures, caretakers, peers. It’s horrible. Downright horrible. No wonder you always see him running around trying to kill dragons and prove his worth - to try to end all that criticism. But he kept failing over and over and over again as he tried to be that Viking. And thus received more criticism in a painful feedback loop.

Ironically, that moment Hiccup finally revealed his true self as dragon rider is when others started to respect him. Though his differences set him apart, he kept trying to fit in anyway, and received negative responses from people. But once he could live as himself without fearing others’ impressions is when his reputation took a turn from “the worst Viking Berk has ever seen” to “the pride of Berk.” People never could accept Hiccup as a typical Viking. But people did learn to accept him as the unique, unconventional Viking he was.
